I.Government of Tamil Nadu Scholarships
1.Backward class scholarships This Scholarships is awarded by the District Backward Class Welfre Officer to the students of Backward/Most Backward Classes belonging to Hindu relegion who have secured not less than 40% in the aggregate in the final examination(or)previous year final examination,Dayscholars are eligible to receive coacession form fess payment of tuition fees(H.F.R or F.F.R),special fees,examination feesand allowance per books.In addition to the above benefits,hostel students are eligible to receive Rs.55/- per month for 10 months per academic year.The annual income for sanction of the scholarship should be less than Rs.50,000/- 2.Adhoc merit grants These grants are awarded to the I.B.E.SC/ST Students only by the Director of College Education,Madras on the basis of marks secured in the previous year of study. 3.SC/ST loan scholarships Under this scheme financial assiatance is provided by way of interest free to the SC/ST students.The maximum loan amount ranging from Rs.700 to Rs.7000 per annum is sanctioned to each candidate in respect of the courses studied by them. No interest is charged on this loan amount. These students are not eligible to get educational loans from any Nationalised bank. 4.National loan scholarship scheme The National Loan Scholarship is open to Nationals of India only. Students, who pass any of the qualifying examinations with atleast 50% marks in aggregate, will be eligible for award and renewal of National Loan Scholarships. The income of the parents of scholors should not exceed Rs.6000 per year. Prescribed forms are available at the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Chennai. Value of the Loan in Rs.970 per year for engineering students. The selected candidates will be required to execute a bond with the Government to abide by the terms and conditions of the award. The Directorate of Collegiate Education for the award of scholarship selects the candidates. Repayment The repayment will start one year after the scholar has begun to earn an income which term shall not include paid practical training or three years after the termination of scholarships, whichever is earlier. 5.Ex-serviceman scholarship awarded to their children The ex-serviceman should have put in five years of service; if he had been discharged at his own request and in other cases the maximum service is six months. Monthly income of the parents should be less than Rs.340. Approximately value of the Scholarship is Rs.1000 per year. The students should acquire 90% attendance for getting the scholarship. II.Government of India scholarships 1.National scholarships Value of the scholarship is Rs.170 per month for resident scholars and Rs.120 for 12 months per academic year. The Director of Collegiate Education, Chennai awards the scholarship. The candidates, who obtain atleast 60% marks in the aggregate in the HSc Examination or its equivalent examination are eligible. The income of the parents of the scholars should not exceed Rs.500 per month. The Director of Collegiate Education for award of scholarship selects the candidates for scholarships. 2.Scholarship for SC/St students Value of the scholarship for boys Rs.280 per month to residents or hostellers and Rs.480 per month to dayscholars for 10 months per academic year. The annual income limit for the sanction of the scholarship is Rs.60,000. 3.Government of India scholarship for physically handicapped students The blind, the deaf and orthopaedically handicapped students who are eligible should have secured 40% marks in the final annual examination. There is no age limit for these students. The combined annual income of the parents/guardians should not exceed Rs.2000. A certificate to this effect will have to be submitted along with applications. Disabled students should not be in receipt of other financial assistance. Applications should be made to the 'State Department of Social Welfare' in the prescribed form through the Head of the Institution. Rate of scholarships is Rs.120 per month for dayscholars and Rs.170 per month for hostellers. |
